“He does not believe in him anymore” Pundit gives his verdict on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal star
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, “does not believe in his “club captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang according to Martin Keown.
Known revealed that Arteta does not believe in Gabonese international to solve Arsenal’s current problem upfront.
Aubameyang was dropped to the bench for Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Everton last Monday as Alexandre Lacazette led the attack line.
The former Dortmund striker was once again left out of Arsenal’s squad as the Gunners defeated Southampton 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, thanks to goals from Lacazette, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel.
“[Arteta] He’s fallen out of love with the player [Aubameyang], he doesn’t quite believe in him,” Keown told talkSPORT.
“OK, you have given him a new contract six months into his tenure as manager when they won the FA Cup and that is all well and good, but since then he has not performed in the same way.
“The player is at a loss of form and in those moments, if I look at it from the player’s point of view, you want that support from the manager and want someone to stand by you.
“You certainly expect, if you have been dropped, to come on in a game of high importance.
“I do believe that Aubameyang should have started [against Everton] and I’m trying to find the logic from the manager,” Keown added. “Personally, I would play him.
“It becomes a problem when you lose games.”
The 31-year-old signed a new three-year deal with the Gunners in September, which will see him stay at the club till June 2023.
It remains to be seen, with the current happenings if Aubameyang will see out his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
