Journalist reveals message about Darwin Nunez’s move to Liverpool
Journalist Alex Crook revealed what sources told him about Darwin Nunez’s potential move to Liverpool.
Crook told TalkSPORT that Liverpool had been tipped off as ‘genuine contenders’ to sign the striker according to ‘trustworthy source.’
“We spoke about Liverpool earlier, about Sadio Mane and would they replace him,” said Crook.
“Darwin Nunez, there is genuine interest from Manchester United, but a deal for him is not as close as has been suggested in the Portuguese media. I received a text message from a trustworthy source on Friday that Liverpool are genuinely contenders for him.”
Nunez has quickly emerged as the front-runner to replace Mane as Liverpool enters negotiations with Bayern Munich for his services.
At the moment, it would seem that all roads lead to Nunez. After confirmation of Liverpool’s interest on Sunday evening, this adds even more fuel to the fire.
Much appears to depend on Liverpool being able to recoup their entire asking price for Mane.
Despite German claims that the pitiful cost is comparable to what Liverpool paid for Thiago in the summer of 2020, it is substantially cheaper because the Reds paid similar figures in Pounds, making the trade worth close to €30 million in Bayern’s currency.
Thiago’s move occurred during the summer, when football was suspended and finances were unknown owing to Covid, and forwards tend to command higher transfer fees, particularly those who have been included in the Ballon d’Or conversation prior to their move.
Liverpool like to live within their means when it comes to transfers. If they can’t extract maximum value for Mane, they certainly won’t go in for Nunez above what they deem to be acceptable.
