Liverpool takes final decision on Marco Asensio transfer as Reds tipped to make fourth signing
Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool over the last few months.
Between now and the start of the upcoming season, Liverpool will almost definitely decide against going to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.
Since the conclusion of the previous season, the Reds have moved rapidly to bring in three new players, with Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez, and Calvin Ramsay having already penned contracts at Anfield.
A move for Asensio, who has been linked with both Liverpool and AC Milan in recent months, has also been proposed as a way for Liverpool to strengthen their team in time for the upcoming season.
However, the Anfield leadership is content with their current squad and won’t make a move to sign the Spaniard before the action on the field resumes, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“I think that would be really difficult,” Romano told wettfreunde when quizzed on the possibility of Asensio joining Liverpool over the coming weeks.
“It could maybe be something for the end of the transfer window, in case Liverpool decide to change their position. But at the moment they say internally that they are happy with the squad they have.
“It could depend on the impact of the young players who signed them. For example, Fabio Carvalho, who was fantastic in the league at Fulham and who is believed to be ready for the first team to play at the highest level at Liverpool.
“Of course, while we’re preparing, we’ll have to wait and see how it develops and everything else. Nothing is in sight for Marco Asensio as Liverpool are very happy with Darwin, Carvalho and Ramsay.
“They are very happy with their transfer window. They are already thinking about new contract extensions. They plan for the future and not just for the present.”
Asensio has struggled for regular first-team minutes at Real Madrid over the past few years, so it is unclear whether Liverpool will finally change their mind about signing him.
He is only under contract with the Spanish giants throughout the end of the following season, which raises the possibility that a cheap transfer could be imminent in order to allow his current employers to recover a fee for his services.
According to another report, Asensio is worried that he might only have a little role for the Reds and would prefer to join Milan over Liverpool.
