Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard tables a £30 million bid to sign Liverpool superstar

According to reports, Aston Villa is eager to get Liverpool defender Joe Gomez and is prepared to pay £30 million for the 25-year-old.

The quick center-back has played 142 times for Liverpool over the course of seven seasons, although his career with the team has been badly hampered by various injury issues.

Gomez has experienced fitness problems and has had a lot of competition for playing time from players like Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Ibrahima Konate.

Last season, he played in just eight Premier League games. The Daily Star reports that Aston Villa is putting up a bid for the defender that would be worth about £30 million, according to TeamTalk.

Gomes can play both at his preferred center-back position and as a full-back.

The current manager of Villa, the legendary Steven Gerrard of Liverpool, has long admired the former Charlton Athletic defender.

Following a poor 14th-place finish in the previous season, the 42-year-old manager is seeking to strengthen his team in every department.

At the Merseyside club, Gomez’s current contract has two years remaining.

He wants to play frequently once more in order to get back into Gareth Southgate’s England team before the World Cup in Qatar this year.

The defender has not appeared for the Three Lions since a 3-0 victory over Wales in August 2020, and he has entirely lost favor with his national team.

The Reds want to keep Gomez at Anfield because they view him as a very valuable ultimate option, according to The Mirror.

If sports director Julian Ward can persuade the defender that he is still a part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans, the Merseyside club may be able to keep him on staff.

When Van Dijk and Matip reach their respective 31st birthdays, Klopp will eventually need to find a replacement for the center-half pair.

The German manager might choose to mold a substitute player to fit his playing style.

The six-time European winners have already signed Darwin Nunez, a forward for Benfica, along with Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho, two young stars.

Ward is now concentrating on securing the services of many players, including Harvey Elliot, Gomez, Diogo Jota, and Naby Keita.

The club is undoubtedly worried about Mohamed Salah’s contract situation as he will be a free agent in the summer of 2019.
