Liverpool boss Klopp provides fitness update on Liverpool duo Jota and Alisson ahead of Community Shield clash against Man City

Two important Liverpool players could miss the Community Shield match against Manchester City on July 30 due to injuries.

Following the Reds 2-0 victory over Crystal in a preseason  friendly on July 15, manager Jurgen Klopp gave an update on forward Diogo Jota and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Jota has recently struggled with hamstring problems after suffering one while representing Portugal internationally.

The star travelled to Asia with his colleagues for preseason but has since suffered a second hamstring injury.

In a post-game press conference, Klopp described the forward as follows (according to Daily Mail):

“Diogo, unlucky eh? ‘He had an injury from the end of last season. He trained fully yesterday but got injured again. That’s really not cool.

“Now we have to wait for the results. He had an assessment this morning so we will have to see. It’s in the same area.”

Alisson, meanwhile, may win the race to regain fitness in time for the Manchester City match, according to Klopp.

He said, ” Ali has a chance for the game against Man City, Diogo not. With Ali, it’s nothing serious but we’re preparing for the whole season.

“It’s just not ideal. He can’t do goalie training with it and shouldn’t play at this moment, but he can still do some other things.

“These things happen. Only a little thing but we have to be careful.”

Liverpool’s preseason was off to a bad start when they weredefeated 4-0 by Manchester United on July 12 in Thailand.

However, they recovered with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, and they’ll be hoping to keep it up on July 21 against RB Leipzig.
