“He might be out until September” – Watch Man city boss pep Guardiola reveals serious injury for Manchester City ahead of blockbuster Liverpool clash
Manchester City and Liverpool FC square off in the community shield match on the 30th of July, 2022 with a significant player to be absent due to injury.
Aymeric Laporte will be sidelined for the duration of Manchester City’s Community Shield match against Liverpool, according to Pep Guardiola.
In the FA Cup Community Shield, the Sky Blues and Reds will square off.
The game will be held in Leicester’s King Power Stadium, which serves as the home field for the league’s current champions, Leicester City.
In the 5-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in May of last year, Aymeric Laporte suffered a knee injury. It has been revealed that he needs surgery despite playing in the final two games of the season.
After the final match of the previous season, the 28-year-old defender underwent knee surgery, according to Pep Guardiola, his manager.
Pep stated during a pre-game press conference prior to the match against Liverpool that Laporte might not be available until September:
“Laporte is injured. He had surgery after the last few games [of last season], he made an incredible effort.
“He had surgery, he’s doing incredibly well, you have to do careful. It’s his knee, he might be out until September.”
The defender had already acknowledged that he required additional care for his knee to heal in time for the upcoming season back in May.
The Frenchman scored four goals for his squad in 44 outings last season across all competitions.
