“I will bench him”: Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool star forward will be benched he does not play well

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has conducted his pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Crystal Palace.

After drawing their first match against Fulham, the Reds play their first Premier League home game on Monday night.

Klopp started Roberto Firmino through the middle at Craven Cottage despite adding Darwin Nunez as a new centre-forward this summer.

Klopp acknowledged in a Press Conference that Firmino did not perform well in that match, but he insisted that he still had faith in the Brazilian.

Klopp said: “He is very important. Bobby.

“If you take our last game we didn’t find him properly for different reasons. We analysed it, the centre was very often blocked.

“He didn’t play well and we found it difficult to get him into the game. But we don’t judge him on one game.

“He had a good pre-season and will benefit from that during the season. 200 starts in PL is not bad, most of them with me.

Since Klopp took over, Firmino, who cost £29 million has played a major role in Liverpool’s offensive strategies; but, past season, things took a different turn.

When Luis Diaz was brought in during the January transfer window, Klopp moved Sadio Mane inside and benched Firmino for a few games.

Nunez recently came off the bench against Fulham and scored and assisted, which increases the pressure on Firmino this season.

Even though it seems likely that Darwin will replace Firmino as the team’s starting midfielder sooner rather than later, he is still a fantastic talent for Liverpool to have on their squad.
