Liverpool have reportedly made a move for €120m Benfica star midfielder
Liverpool have initiated contact with Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis as they look to revamp their aging midfielder.
Liverpool have continued to struggle in the midfield this year despite their recent Premier League triumph against Manchester City on Sunday. Clearly, Thiago has strengthens this Liverpool team, but as he ages, injuries have become more of a problem for him.
Since James Milner and Jordan Henderson have had trouble maintaining their form and aren’t getting any younger, Liverpool may prioritize adding some younger midfielders soon.
Now, according to O Jogo (via Sport Witness), Liverpool is interested in Benfica midfielder Luis, who recently renewed his contract with the Portuguese team and has a €120 million release clause.
According to the report, Liverpool has already spoken with Benfica about the potential transfer.
Luis played a key role in Benfica this season, forming a partnership with Enzo Fernandez, who Liverpool are reportedly also interested in signing. Luis spent the previous two seasons on loan.
Luis’ best years should still be ahead of him and also Fernandez who is still young at 21, could eventually take the place of Henderson, Thiago, or Milner.
The 23-year-old has made 30 appearances for the senior team, having spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Monaco.
Red fans will surely hope that at least one of the two midfielders spends their long-term future at Anfield.
