Jürgen Klopp has reportedly ‘opened talks’ with two potential transfer targets in a bid to rejuvenate his aging and inconsistent midfield.

Given the aging and extensive mileage on the present midfielders, Jürgen Klopp is fully aware of the need to replace them.

Empire of the Kop claimed this week that Liverpool had spoken with Sofyan Amrabat before his team ‘abandoned’ talks in an interview with Foot Mercato’s Anas Bakhkhar.

But in a little-noticed nuance, Bakhkhar also seemed to reveal that Benfica and Borussia Dortmund were directly contacted about “discussions” with Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernández.

Evidently, the attention was strong enough to alarmed Amrabat’s entourage.

Nevertheless, starting negotiations is one thing; closing the agreement is quite another.

Given that both play for clubs that command high rates for their players and that both had strong showings at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, there will be considerable rivalry for both players.

It’s unlikely that Liverpool will be able to finance both players unless the team receives a large cash infusion. Klopp is probably initiating “talks” with both of them as a type of backup plan to make sure the club signs at least one of them.

Bellingham is undoubtedly the top candidate, but it won’t be simple to sign him considering the rivalry for the England international.

But if the rumours that Klopp has begun conversations with the two are accurate, then at least there is a glimmer of hope for Liverpool fans.

However, it’s worth noting that Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently claimed that there have not yet been any formal approaches for Bellingham from anyone.

As for Fernández, he looked bound for Chelsea at one stage, but that move looks as though it may have collapsed, which could pave the way for a summer approach.
