Liverpool express interest in “very quick” defender on free transfer
According to 90min, Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu is available for free transfer this summer, and both Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp and Newcastle United under Eddie Howe are reportedly interested.
The article claims that several clubs, including Liverpool and Newcastle, are interested in signing Soyuncu for the 2023 summer season.
The 26-year-old Turkish international defender’s contract with Premier League champion Leicester City expires at the end of the current campaign.
According to 90min, Soyuncu was apparently interested in Liverpool and Newcastle, but neither club made the right offer.
The centre-back – who is “a very, very quick, very assured defender” by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand in Football.London in June 2021 – has now reportedly agreed terms with La Liga club Atletico and will make the move to Madrid at the end of the season.
In our view, it is strange that Liverpool want(ed) to sign Caglar Soyuncu even on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
Yes, the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners could do with bringing in one or two new centre-backs, but they need to find someone better than Soyuncu.
The 26-year-old has not been at his best for a while.
We do not think that Soyuncu is the kind of defender who would make Liverpool good enough to get back to the level they once were.
