Chris Sutton sends Erling Haaland an ‘interesting’ message following Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez signing from Benfica

Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland, according to former Premier League great Chris Sutton, will have a “interesting” battle next season.

Liverpool and Benfica have agreed on a fee for Nunez’s transfer. The Portuguese club sealed a transaction of up to £85 million (€100 million) in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 22-year-old will now go to Merseyside for his physical before the Reds officially finalize the deal. Following the acquisition of Fulham’s Fabio Carvalho, Nunez is likely to become Jurgen Klopp’s second summer signing.

Nunez joins Manchester City after a deal to bring Haaland to the Premier League was completed. His £51 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund has finally been confirmed.

In 2022/23, the Norway international will undoubtedly be one of the favorites for the Golden Boot.

Nunez, on the other hand, is coming off a productive season for Benfica and might be in the mix.

While Sutton recognizes the brilliance of the Uruguayan international, he believes Haaland is the superior player.

“It’s an interesting one with Haaland signing for Manchester City,” said former Blackburn Rovers striker Sutton. “I like him (Nunez), saw him in the Champions League.

“He’s a good centre-forward and good in the air. Liverpool may have lacked a central striker that’s good in the air.

When asked who will score more goals, Nunez or Haaland, Sutton replied:

“I think Haaland is the real deal. I think Nunez is good. But Haaland, he is unplayable.”
