Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool are still interested in 25-year-old Laliga star despite Darwin Nunez being the ‘priority’
Liverpool’s first ‘target’ for the summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, is Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, but the Reds are also interested in Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma.
The Reds are ready for a number of exits. The club just announced that Belgian striker Divock Origi will leave the club on June 30 when his contract expires.
Bayern Munich has made many offers to sign Sadio Mane. The Senegal international’s deal with the Reds expires in a year, and he might be sold this summer. As a result, Liverpool might sign a slew of attackers this summer.
Darwin Nunez of Benfica is thought to be the club’s primary target. The Reds have began talks with Nunez’s agent and Benfica about bringing the Uruguayan to Anfield.
Arnaut Danjuma has also been highlighted as a potential transfer target by the Reds. Last season, the winger scored 16 goals in 34 games for Unai Mery’s team, helping Villarreal reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Jurgen Klopp’s team, according to Romano, has been ‘watching’ the forward ‘for a long time.’ In a column for Caught Offside, he wrote:
“As of today, Liverpool are leading the race for Darwin Nunez, still waiting to get the deal done. The next few hours will be crucial to understand if Liverpool and Benfica will complete the deal.
“Liverpool are in negotiations with Darwin Nunez’s agent on a five-year contract, they are confident but they are still working in these hours with Benfica to reach full agreement.”
“What if the clubs miss out? It’s not really in Liverpool’s mindset to have a ‘Plan B’: they identify their target and try in every way to achieve it.
“I can tell you, however, that one player who they have been following for a long time is Arnaut Danjuma of Villarreal.”
Arnaut Danjuma moved to Villarreal for £21 million from Bournemouth.
Last season, the Dutchman was a star performer for the Spanish club, and his contract includes a £38 million release clause.
