Former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique had a joke at Manchester United’s expense in response to a report that Christian Eriksen had decided against joining them.
According to the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, the former Tottenham Hotspur player has turned down Manchester United’s offer. The Danish midfielder is considering extending his contract with Brentford or returning to Spurs.
Marcel van der Kraan: “Erik Ten Hag has made it clear to the board that he wants Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen
“For his identity, role model and style at Man United, it’s all about those two players. He doesn’t want other players apart from those two.”
Eriksen’s rejection amused Enrique, who clearly enjoys the intense rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool. He criticized United for being rejected by the Danish international on Twitter. He expressed himself as follows:
“Christian Eriksen has rejected Manchester United’s offer and prefers to either stay with Brentford or join Tottenham. | Jamie Jackson, Guardian
The Red Devils are yet to make a new signing, despite having already signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay.
They have only lost players so far, with Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Edinson Cavani all due to leave for free on July 1.
Eriksen, who returned to football in January, scored one goal and added four assists in only 11 Premier League outings in 2021-22.
