A late victory over Napoli gave Liverpool some momentum, but they were still forced to settle for second place in their Champions League group.

At Anfield, two late goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah settled a close encounter, but the Reds fell short of the four goals needed to overtake their rivals.

Earlier, Leo Ostigard’s header from Napoli’s corner was disallowed for a close offside after a protracted VAR review.

While their opponents claimed a victory that will do wonders for them ahead of a trip to Tottenham on Sunday, Luciano Spalletti’s team demonstrated enough to back suggestions that they will be a feared draw in the later stages.
