“I heard that from my agent” – 25-year-old Chelsea star opens up on Liverpool’s interest in him this summer

Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria has opened up on rumours that says Liverpool were interested in signing him this past summer.

The Swiss international transferred from Juventus to the Blues on transfer deadline day on a season-long loan with a £30 million buyout clause.

However, Zakaria might have traveled to Liverpool in northern England given Jurgen Klopp’s urgent need for midfield reinforcements.

On the first day of the season, Thiago Alcantara suffered a hamstring injury for the Reds. The week before deadline day, Jordan Henderson then suffered an injury.

With little time left, Klopp had to rush to find a substitute. Liverpool did sign midfielder Arthur Melo from Juventus on a season-long loan. With the German publication Blick, Zakaria has been discussing his move to Chelsea.

“It all happened very quickly. I didn’t know a move to Chelsea was possible until six hours before the end of the transfer window.

“I packed my things and waited for the contract to be signed. I then did the medical check in Turin and it went through. It was very close.”

Zakaria then opened up on the Anfield side’s interest in him:

“I heard that from my agent, but in the end it was Chelsea, and I think I’ll be happier in England than in Turin.”

The ex-Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has not yet played for the west London team.

After joining Juventus for £7.74 million in January from Monchengladbach, he experienced a challenging time there.

For Juventus, Zakaria made 15 appearances, making one goal and one assist.

At the Allianz Stadium, it was evident that the midfielder was slipping down the hierarchy under Massimilliano Allegri.
