“I respect Liverpool” – Watch Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane finally speak on summer transfer move to Bayern’
Sadio Mane believes he has “a lot of respect” for Liverpool and that he was kidding when he claimed he would leave Anfield if Senegalese fans wanted him to.
Mane, who has a year left on his current contract and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, claimed this week that up to 70% of Senegalese people want him to change clubs.
According to The Times, Bayern Munich’s initial approach of £21 million plus £4 million in add-ons for Mane was rejected by Liverpool, with the German club believing that they can recruit Mane for less than €50 million (£42.5 million) this summer.
Is Sadio Mane on the verge of leaving Anfield this summer?
However, after scoring a hat-trick for Senegal against Benin on Saturday, Mane recalled slightly, saying:
“I spoke yesterday while joking with a bit of humour and it was everywhere. I think we’ll stop there.
“Liverpool is a club I respect a lot. The fans adopted me since day one. Regarding the future, we’ll see.”
After joking that his dream move is to his boyhood club Marseille, Mane has kept his light-hearted tone about his future.
“You know I’m not a fan of these teams,” said Mane when asked about a move to Bayern, Real Madrid or Barcelona. “My club is Marseille, I would rather say Marseille.”
