The Mirror quotes Futbol Total as saying that Liverpool has made a £60 million bid to sign the Dutch star during the summer transfer window.

In recent months, De Jong has been linked with a transfer away from Barcelona, but he has so far resisted the idea and insists that he wants to stay and play at the Nou Camp.

The Catalan club has made several significant acquisitions, but they still have to stay under the La Liga pay cap.

The 25-year-wage old’s is one of the highest in the team, according to today’s Sport (news image provided below), and Barcelona has given him two options.

The club will either try to sell him before the transfer market closes the next week, or he can accept a wage cut to stay.

De Jong and his agent Dursun believe that the athlete has already given up a significant portion of his money (during the pandemic), and would like to remain rather than have his pay reduced.

The scenario for the midfielder, who is also sought after by Manchester United and Chelsea, is undoubtedly tricky.

He primarily plays in the No. 6 position, which is usually occupied by Busquets, Barcelona’s starting captain.

Franck Kessie, an Ivorian playmaker, was additionally recruited this summer to bolster the midfield.

The former Ajax player is still under contract for more than three years and makes a staggering income of almost £340,000 each week (Football Transfers).
