Liverpool may assert that their summer spending is complete, but since the start of the January transfer window, the Reds have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele. Now, a report claims that Jurgen Klopp’s team has “made an offer” for the Frenchman.
Liverpool are one of five clubs to make an offer to sign Dembele as a free agent, according to Spanish news outlet Sport via Paisley Gates. His contract situation at the Camp Nou has not yet been resolved after the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.
Despite the attacker’s poor return to Spain after joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for €105 million plus an alleged €40 million in add-ons, registering 32 goals in 150 games across all competitions, Barcelona remain optimistic about maintaining hold of the forward.
Dembele has never once started more than 20 games in a season since joining Barca.
Salah, on the other hand, has started at least 30 Premier League games for Liverpool each season since he joined the team.
Since joining the Reds, the 30-year-old winger has averaged 19 Premier League goals each season. During his time in Spain, Dembele has scored fewer than 4 goals on average per season.
Salah’s departure from Liverpool would leave a significant vacuum in the team, thus Liverpool could be better off looking for a goal scorer with greater track record to fill it.
Dembele is a free agent right now, so any team is free to approach him about signing a contract.
However, Liverpool is not the only team monitoring Dembele’s position.
There are rumors that the midfielder is also appealing to Chelsea, PSG, and Bayern Munich.
