Wolves Make A Signing Offer For A £50M+ Player, But He Wants Liverpool.
Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Sporting, has recently received a formal offer from Wolves, but the Portugal international is holding out for a transfer to Liverpool.
According to Correio da Manha (via Paisley Gates), Wolves have made the Primeira Liga team an acceptable offer.
Nunes is reportedly hesitant to transfer to the Molineux club, despite the alleged agreement between Wolves and Sporting.
Instead, the 23-year-old would prefer to team up with Jürgen Klopp and has a £50.4 million release clause in his contract.
Due to their connections to super-agent Jorge Mendes, Wolves have a reputation for being very successful in securing the services of Portuguese players.
However, Nunes does not want to walk the route taken by players like Diogo Jota, a current Liverpool star, Ruben Neves, and Pedro Neto who joined the West Midlands club.
His preference is to join a major Premier League club in order to accelerate his ascent to the top. There are rumors that Manchester City is also monitoring the player.
Liverpool would be prudent to try to sign Nunes to a contract.
He would bring technical quality, which Liverpool’s engine room currently lacks, to the table.
The only pure deep playmaker in Klopp’s engine room is Thiago.
Jordan Henderson prefers to play a box-to-box position, while Fabinho is more of a defensively minded anchor.
If Thiago suffered a major injury this season, Jürgen Klopp may rest a bit easier knowing Nunes was around.
Even if Thiago hasn’t been with Liverpool for very long, it’s simple to overlook the fact that he is now 31 years old and entering the latter stages of his career.
He’ll need to be replaced as quickly as possible. Why not find a successor right away who can both protect him and benefit from him?
Prior to the 2022–23 season, the Liverpool midfield is a little lacking in talent, and adding Nunes would help to address that problem.
Nunes will be happy he waited for Liverpool to act if Jürgen Klopp comes to the same conclusion.
