‘It is my Biggest dream’ – £52million Brazilian star wants Liverpool move despite Premier League interest, he could be a perfect Enzo Fernandez alternative
Premier League side Newcastle United are interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes, though the Brazilian has admitted he would love to join Liverpool, according to reports.
The Reds have had a terrible start to the season and are currently in sixth position, 16 points behind league leaders Arsenal and seven points from a Champions League spot.
Due to a lot of their current midfielders being old, out of shape, or departing, Jurgen Klopp’s team was looking for a new midfielder in January. In fact, it’s likely that auxiliary players Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Arthur Melo will all depart at the end of the campaign.
Jude Bellingham, a 19-year-old England star, has apparently been designated as Liverpool’s top target; nevertheless, any transaction will probably happen in the summer.
Enzo Fernandez is also said to be a priority for the Anfield club, while rival Premier League team Chelsea is thought to be his obvious destination.
In turn, Newcastle target Gomes could be an ideal alternative to the Argentine and has in the past expressed a desire to join Liverpool.
Gomes to Liverpool?
Eddie Howe’s team is keeping an eye on Gomes, a 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder playing for Flamengo, according to respected journalist Rudy Galetti.
SPORT, a Spanish daily, has reported that Klopp’s team is also interested in the player. The article also noted that the child had a £52 million release clause.
Given that Gomes has stated his affection for the Merseyside club and its star midfielder Thiago, Liverpool would be the more likely team to close a deal if the two sides squared off.
The Copa Libertadores champion, who is comparable to Casemiro of Manchester United, said: “I look at Thiago Alcantara.”
Speaking to ESPN, Gomes added: “Liverpool is a team I would play for. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream. My biggest dream in football.”
