John Arne Riise reveals why he is scared for Liverpool
John Arne Riise has expressed his worries for Liverpool as the battle Chelsea and Manchester City for Silverware this season.
Former Liverpool legend John Arne Riise has stated that he is ‘scared’ the club could be set for a repeat of the 2020/21 season should injuries start to mount up.
The Club was unable to retain their Premier League title and Riise is worried the same time may occur this time around, as they challenge Chelsea and Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were on 25 games unbeaten run, before the shocking 3-2 defeat to West Ham at the London stadium.
Riise is concerned and believes the Reds Poor transfer window, means should injuries pile up, they may have to go another season without a trophy.
“I was a little bit worried in the beginning because I didn’t think we replaced [Gini] Wijnaldum who I think was extremely important for Liverpool,” Riise told talkSPORT.
“But then in the beginning I thought played exceptionally well
“I’m really concerned about the depth in the squad, I don’t think they have the top, top, top-class players.
“Like last season when we lost [Virgil] Van Dijk and then a few other players you can see we struggled and I’m scared it could be the same again this year.
“Could be injured, suspension, Africa Cup of Nations when we lose some players [Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita], I’m a little bit worried that’s when the title is going to be decided.
“I don’t think we are strong enough depth-wise to compete in the long run with Manchester City or Chelsea.”
Just before the International break, Liverpool were without the services of a number of their players due to injury, hopefully, they will be fit after the two-week-long break.
