Jurgen Klopp has pinpointed key reasons behind Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid, and he has a simple solution

For the next few weeks, Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid may seem like a gaping hole. But, with Jürgen Klopp at the helm, this club will blossom once more.

Every time Liverpool has fallen short at the final hurdle during Klopp’s tenure at Anfield, the Reds have come back with a bang.

Liverpool has always found unique ways to reach new heights through reinforcements and recycled zeal.

Even if the FA Cup and League Cup victories provide a sliver of relief and lay a thin veil over the supporters’ disappointment, this seems like the cruelest of defeats after coming so close to the Premier League and the Champions League.

But the beauty of sport is that you can always try again, especially when you have a manager like Klopp who is humble in loss and will work hard to correct what went wrong.

The lack of clear-cut ruthlessness in front of goal is one of the most important things Liverpool will learn from this season. Liverpool’s loss to Real Madrid in Paris was not the first time this season that the Reds have struggled against a low-block sturdy defensive team.

Liverpool created a large number of half-chances on the night, bringing their xG total to 2.19 — with nine shots on target and 24 total, you’d expect a greater number.

Klopp emphasized this in his post-game press conference.

“Courtois made three incredible saves. I would like to have had more of this calibre. In the final third we could have made better passes and cross,” Klopp told reporters.

The most important takeaway for Liverpool from this performance — and their entire season — is the necessity for a true creator capable of making wise decisions in the final third.
