Jurgen Klopp issues a warning to Manchester City ahead of the title decider on the final day
Liverpool are still in with a possibility of winning the Premier League title at the cost of Man City on the last day of the season, and Klopp has sent a strong warning to the current leaders.
Jurgen Klopp has warned Man City that his “amazing” players can throw the Premier League title race into a last twist.
At St Mary’s, Liverpool defender Joel Matip’s second-half winner set up a final-day shootout with title rivals Manchester City.
To be declared champions, City must defeat Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa, but Klopp knows that his manager rival Pep Guardiola will not take it for granted.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, whose team is aiming a quadruple said:
“If I was in the other situation then I don’t feel like I’m champion already.
“I’m second and I think: ‘yeah, of course City win.’ But this is football. And also we still have to beat Wolves and have one ear in Manchester, it’s not that far away.
“If we become champions then it would be deserved as well but we have to win. Whatever happens will happen because this is a pretty special group.
“It’s game 18 in this run for us, we’ve won 15 and drawn three. To win 15, draw three, it’s absolute madness and it’s the only way to keep this distance to City. The boys have thrown everything on the pitch and it’s really exceptional.”
Klopp, on the other hand, stated that he would not speak to Villa manager Steven Gerrard to wish him well. Klopp stated, “I don’t have to speak to him because Aston Villa will want to win for Aston Villa.”
