Jurgen Klopp optimistic as he gives Joe Gomez injury update
jurgen klopp delivered an optimistic update after Joe Gomez suffered an ankle injury against Southampton on Tuesday night.
In the final minutes before halftime, Gomez buckled to the ground beneath the weight of a Southampton player as the Reds pushed for another goal at 1-1.
It appeared to be a bad situation for the No. 12, who was taken off the pitch and consoled by Alisson during the break by physio Chris Morgan and club doctor Jim Mox
Given Gomez’s injury history, there was some concern when he did not return for the second half, with Jordan Henderson taking his position and James Milner shifting to right-back as Liverpool won 2-1.
In his post-match press conference at St Mary’s, he said:
“Joey himself has pain but not too much, but it was really like a shock to the system. He was sitting in the dressing room, when I spoke to him he was in a good mood.
“I think we were probably lucky.”
Dr. Rajpal Brar, a sports physiotherapist, speculated on Twitter that Gomez had a high ankle sprain, which might keep him out for three weeks.
Of course, with two games remaining in which Trent Alexander-Arnold would start, Gomez’s season is likely ended, but the fact that he appears to have escaped a major and more long-term injury is a huge relief.
This season, Gomez has made 21 appearances, 11 of which have been starts.
