Jurgen Klopp reveals the blunt transfer truth he told Thiago Alcantara after FA Cup victory against Chelsea
After Liverpool’s FA Cup win against Chelsea on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp revealed what he said to Thiago Alcantara.
After missing the League Cup final win against Chelsea in February due to an injury sustained in the warm-up, the Spaniard has been in fantastic form for the Reds since regaining fitness and was a standout player against Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Liverpool claimed a domestic cup double after the 31-year-old played the full 120 minutes in midfield and scored his penalty in the shoot-out as Klopp’s team went in search of an unprecedented quadruple.
Thiago has become such an important player for his team since joining from Bayern Munich at the start of last season that the German quipped that he wished he had signed him sooner.
“After the game I said to Thiago, “If I had known what a player you are, I would have signed you four years earlier! he told reporters. “He said, “You taught me running!”
“I take that, that’s fine, that’s fine. Obviously he could already play football pretty well but he learned running at Liverpool. It’s fine.”
Jurgen Klopp took responsibility for Mane’s miss after the final whistle, revealing he influenced his decision.
“Sadio’s penalty is, for sure at least 50% my responsibility,” he said. “Because you have to let the boys do what they think to do but with him I said he knows you exactly, the goalie, so do the other way around.
