Jurgen Klopp sends transfer warning to potential new investors as FSG eye sale
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sent a clear transfer message to any potential investors.
When it comes to competing with the biggest clubs in the transfer market, Jurgen Klopp believes that potential additional investment at Liverpool may be a game changer.
The Fenway Sports Group , who own Anfield, made it clear that they are open to the potential investors and the Liverpool manager indicated he is okay with that idea.
And he insisted that it might finally enable them to pursue signings that have previously been out of their budget range.
“The two biggest transfers we did in the past with Alisson and Virgil van Dijk (for a combined £130m) and we all know how it happened: we got some money from Barcelona (£135m for Phillipe Coutinho) and spent it wisely, I would say.
“How we did it so far brought us to where we are. But fresh money is no mistake, let me say it like this. Nothing gets cheaper, and not only because of the inflation rate.
“Sometimes you have to spend. We are really happy to give all our young kids a chance, and I’m so positive about the impact they will have in the future.
“But around it you have to, from time to time, thrown in proven quality. And in an ideal world, they are young as well, and not 35.”
When his team plays Southampton at Anfield this afternoon in the last Premier League game before the World Cup, Klopp is expecting a quick return on his investment.
Also, he is getting ready to play against a team that is really motivated for what will be their first game under new manager Nathan Jones after Ralph Hasenhuttl was fired.
“Southampton were a highly motivated team under Ralph who I thought did an exceptional job. They were always going for it,” said Klopp.
“But a new manager may be an extra few percent, that is possible. What we saw in our analysis meeting was half-Southampton and half-Luton to see what he is doing. We expect a highly motivated opponent.
“We have to cope ourselves and we expect from ourselves a really good game. We have to show up, it is the last game for a long time and we want to finish on a high.”
