Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp delivers his verdict on Erik ten Hag as Manchester United close in on new manager
Manchester United are reportedly closing in on Erik ten Hag and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the Ajax coach
The current Ajax boss has one year left on his deal but has emerged as the strong candidate to take over the vacant role in Manchester.
The red devils have been searching for a replacement since sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November after a run of poor results, which included a 5-0 away win for the Reds at Old Trafford.
However with all the speculations increasing, jurgen Klopp has previously had his say on the Dutchman as a great coach and mansger in world football and praised his ability to adapt when losing key players such as Donny van de Beek and Frenkie de Jong to major European clubs.
“Erik is rightly regarded as one of the most exciting coaching talents in world football at the moment because of the work he does with Ajax,” Klopp said via Manchester Evening News , speaking in December last year.
“Of course, it is a wonderful club – one of the stellar names of European football – but in this moment it is clear they have outstanding leadership of the organisation and Erik is a big part of that.
“They have had to adapt in recent seasons after losing a few players to rival clubs.
“I remember from my own experience at Dortmund how that feels and what a challenge it is.
“How they deal with it is exceptional. The foundations of the team remain solid and they have recruited well.
“They have a clear identity. I love watching them, I have to say.”
Liverpool could be the first team Ten Hag faces in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday July 12 in Thailand, facing each other for the Bangkok Century Cup.
