Liverpool planning January transfer move for 24-year-old AC Milan star midfielder

Liverpool is reportedly preparing to offer a bid of €40m (£33.7m)for AC Milan playmaker Ismael Bennacer.

Arsenal has been linked to a move for their former player, who left the club in 2017 after appearing in just one EFL Cup match for the North London side.

Despite failing to succeed in North London under Arsene Wenger, the former Arsenal midfielder has now established himself as a regular with Stefano Pioli’s Rossoneri.

Bennacer provided two goals and one assist in 31 Serie A games last season despite competition from Sandro Tonali and Franck Kessie, who is now playing for Barcelona.

The Algeria International started four Champions League games during the group stage and 15 League games as the Rossoneri won the Scudetto.

Due to Bennacer’s contract at San Siro coming to an end in just two years, there have been rumours that he would play in the Premier League again in 2022–23.

According to Calciomercatoweb reports Liverpool are also plotting a swoop for the 24-year-old, who would be the subject of a €40m (£33.7m) fee from the Reds.

The report claims that Bennacer possesses a release clause of €50m (£42.2m) in his existing AC Milan deal, and the Rossoneri may try to hold out for that fee at first.

Bennacer has now contributed three goals and five assists in 105 appearances for Milan over the past three years and is being rumoured with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool and the latest fans are growing increasingly frustrated over the club’s refusal to sign a new midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp’s team have already signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, while Arsenal have lured Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos.
