” I want to play for Liverpool”- Liverpool set to make Serie A midfield target one of the highest-paid players at Anfield
Liverpool are reportedly prepared to make a Serie A midfielder the seventh highest-paid player at Anfield, as they look to complete a January deal.
Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp is reportedly searching the continent for players to boost a midfield unit that has mainly underperformed this season, at least domestically.
Liverpool is now sixth in the Premier League despite having made it into the round of 16 of the Champions League. Additionally, they are seven points behind Manchester United in fourth place.
Their last league outing was a 3-1 humbling at Brentford. Meanwhile, they could only draw 2-2 with Wolves in the FA Cup last weekend.
Having already brought in Cody Gakpo to help Liverpool’s forward line, Klopp is now looking mainly at midfield recruits – although Virgil van Dijk’s injury lay-off has led to suggestions that another center-back could also be targeted.
The Dutchman is only initially expected to be sidelined for a further three weeks. For the time being, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip are expected to be Klopp’s starting lineup. Additionally, he has Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips as backups.
With several names linked, Liverpool will now concentrate on adding another player to Klopp’s engine room.
Jude Bellingham is still their top target, but a January deal is extremely unlikely, and a summer swoop will still cost over £100 million, barring Liverpool coming up with a clever scheme to entice the England player to sign.
However, strong interest remains in Juventus and France star Adrien Rabiot – and the Reds now know how much they will have to pay the midfielder to sign on the dotted line.
It was reported by 90min last month that Liverpool have been in regular contact with the player’s representatives. That is largely due to Rabiot being out of contract in the summer.
And while Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea have also been linked with a move. It’s claimed that Rabiot’s preference is a move to Merseyside.
For their part, Juve are still hopeful the player will sign a fresh contract. And now Calciomercato, via Football Italia, has revealed that the Turin giants are ready to open talks with Rabiot’s camp.
They are willing to pay a season’s worth of add-ons and €7 million (£6.2 million). Also, the source states that Juventus will give Rabiot a bonus as soon as he signs.
The 27-year-old Frenchman reportedly wants €10 million a season in addition to a larger signing bonus.
These numbers won’t be an issue for any of the Premier League clubs that are interested. Rabiot’s requests total over £170,000 every week.
It remains to be seen if Rabiot will eventually make the switch to Anfield, and it would make him the seventh highest-paid player at the Merseyside club (as per Spotrac).
