Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp continues to look for ways to strengthen his attacking option, and Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix is clearly being targeted according to reports.
The Reds are now closing in on a stunning £63m deal for Portuguese youngster Joao Felix.
Reports in Spain claim the 22-year-old is nearing closer to an exit, having failed to settle in the Spanish capital following his big-money move in 2019.
Atletico Madrid signed Félix for a club-record transfer worth £113 million. This was the fourth most expensive transfer in football history, the second most paid for a teenager, after the transfer of Kylian Mbappé to PSG, and the highest fee for a Portuguese player leaving the Portuguese top division.
Atletico Madrid are now set to accept half his original cost, three years after.
Felix has impressed in flurries for the Colchoneros, but he only scored once this season, with many critics pointing out that he doesn’t fit in well with Diego Simeone’s style of play.
Many Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for the Portugal international, with Liverpool leading the way. Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester City have also shown interest, while Bayern Munich are said to have also taken an interest at one point.
However, the forward could be a very good fit with the Reds in particular.
There’s a lot of fluidity in the front positions at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane fitting in alongside one of Diogo Jota or Roberto Firmino. All of Jurgen Klopp’s forwards have amazing movement and are capable of operating in various spaces on the front line.
Felix is capable of playing at left-wing or second striker, while he has also appeared as number 9 at times in his career.
His versatility makes him an attractive proposition, while his age means that he will undoubtedly improve physically and tactically.
At £63m, Klopp could seize the opportunity to catch one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers for some of his true worth.
Felix has the potential to play at the top for a long time and Liverpool will almost certainly be interested in signing the player if they can negotiate a deal a good deal for him.
