Neil Lennon believes Liverpool second choice goalie Caomhin Kelleher needs to leave Liverpool to ‘fulfill his full potential’.

The young goalkeeper currently serves as Alisson Becker’s backup, but he does play for the Reds in domestic cup tournaments.

Although it’s unlikely that the Ireland international will overtake our No. 1 goalkeeper very soon, he is under contract to the team until 2026 and has undoubtedly picked up many tips from the former AS Roma goalkeeper.

“Kelleher will need to leave Liverpool to fulfill his full potential,” the former Celtic manager told Football Odds (via The Kop Times).

“It will be difficult for him to displace Alisson Becker. However, he is still young and has plenty of football ahead of him. I’m sure he and Jurgen Klopp would have had conversations about this.”

The life of a second choice ‘keeper, especially someone as talented as Kelleher, certainly isn’t ideal but he’s a huge favourite of the fans at Anfield.

He was outstanding during our League Cup run last season, which culminated in victory after we defeated Chelsea on penalties in the championship game. The 24-year-old even went up to the spot during the shootout and scored his own penalty.

If he wants to play regularly for the first team, a loan move may be in order because the club is unlikely to let him depart in the near future unless he specifically requests it.

Since he has consistently delivered when called upon, you might anticipate that several teams are keeping an eye on the situation.

He’s still young and got a very promising future ahead of him and although we understand where Lennon is coming from, we’d love to see Kelleher remain at Anfield for the foreseeable.
