Liverpool tipped to sign Cody Gakpo following ‘big’ Jurgen Klopp claim
Jurgen Klopp will reportedly have a “big say” in Liverpool’s acquisitions, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back gave an exclusive interview to Football Insider and lauded Klopp’s working relationship with the Reds’ recruitment staff.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercat, the Merseysiders are in pole position to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.
Despite having a contract until 2026, the 23-year-old is expected to leave the Eredivisie club at the end of the current season.
Speaking to Dutch outlet NOS , Gakpo said it would be an honour to play for a club like Liverpool.
The Netherlands international also confirmed he will be ready to leave PSV at the end of the season.
When asked how much influence Klopp will have on the deal and upcoming acquisitions, Hutton answered to Football Insider as follows: “In terms of Klopp I think he will have a big say to be quite honest.
“Their recruitment has been brilliant there is no getting away from that. They have made really good additions to the squad. I think that will be no different moving forward.
“I have seen Gakpo play quite a lot, obviously against Rangers. His goal involvements, assists, physically he is a good size. He is built for the Premier League so it does not surprise me that they are looking at someone like him.
“But I am pretty sure Klopp has got a really good relationship with the recruitment team and will have a big say in whoever comes in.“
