Liverpool told to sign £6.5m ‘next Casemiro’ and turn transfer tables on Real Madrid
Julian Ward could turn towards an interesting player on the market amid injury crisis in Liverpool’s midfield.
Thiago Alcântara’s injury would have been the last thing Liverpool would have wanted to happen after just one game of the season. Not only is the Spaniard a key member of his Liverpool squad, but he also plays at a position where Jürgen Klopp is already lacking in options.
With Curtis Jones’ potential injury and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain’s injury. Liverpool is already experiencing a true midfield crisis. At this early stage of the season, that is not ideal. One that might encourage Julian Ward to consider the transfer market.
Naturally, FSG will be reluctant to spend money on another midfielder while Liverpool is holding out for Jude Bellingham, but given the midfield’s ageing composition, adding another team member who is still reasonably young might not be a bad idea.
One such player who could fit that criteria is Swiss international Fabian Rider, who plies his trade for Young Boys and already has experience playing Champions League football.
Rieder is the kind of versatile player that Klopp loves to have in his squad. He can play as a wide midfielder, an attacking midfielder, a wing-back, and a holding midfielder.
At the age of 20, Rieder has already featured in 79 games and contributed to 21 goals for Young Boys’ first squad. One of those came last season in the Champions League group stages when Young Boys played Manchester United, and Rieder scored the final goal to secure a draw for his team.
Rieder is Energetic and technically gifted, and has a profile that would suit a team like Liverpool, and with Transfermarkt valuing him at just £6.5m he is an affordable option.
Rieder should be more than prepared for the move to a higher level based on his performances in the Champions League, even though the step-up from the Swiss tier to the Premier League is rapid. He has already made an impression against opponents like Manchester United.
The level of interest in the midfielder, with teams like Real Madrid supposedly taking a look at the 20-year-old, also serves as further evidence of that. Rieder is reportedly a target for Real Madrid, who see him as a potential long-term successor for Casemiro, per sources from Defenca Central.
After missing out on Aurélien Tchouaméni to Real Madrid earlier this summer, Liverpool could try to swoop in and steal another midfield target from Real Madrid instead of falling to the Champions League winners again.
