‘RB is not…”Josko Gvardiol sends blunt transfer message to Liverpool and clubs willing to sign him

Josko Gvardiol’s claims that he is likely to stay with RB Leipzig have made Liverpool’s chances of acquiring him this summer seem to be fading.

The 21-year-old, who shone for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar, has been the focus of strong transfer rumours, with three Premier League clubs reportedly eager to sign him in the summer.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked with a bid for the defender, as have the Reds, who may be looking to shake up their options for their back line after a disappointing year. But, in a recent interview with Net HR, Gvardiol seemed to rule out a move.

He said: “RB Leipzig is not interested in selling me this summer, there is no point in talking about anything else.”

Further deflating Liverpool’s hopes of an end-of-season swoop looks to be a social media post from Sky Sports Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg tweeted: “News #Gvardiol: Leipzig bosses definitely want to keep him until 2024! They are not considering a sale in summer. We understand that an offer of around €100m wouldn’t change their mind. Many clubs interested: Real Madrid, #CFC, #MCFC, #LFC.”

Gvardiol extended his contract with the Bundesliga team in September, and it runs through 2027. But his rapidly developing pedigree has caught the attention of Europe’s biggest teams, who look willing to part up a significant sum of money in order to sign one of the standout performers from the winter World Cup.

The prospects of landing Gvardiol as well, though, appear slim unless Leipzig decide to change their stance, given Liverpool is still pursuing a high-profile transfer for fellow Bundesliga player Jude Bellingham.
