Report: Liverpool set to Spend Big On Benfica star In January
Liverpool haven’t ruled out a move for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the short term.
Fernandez is another name that is often brought up in the ongoing rumours about who Liverpool would try to add to their midfield in the upcoming months.
A crippling injury issue that has left manager Jurgen Klopp without players like Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita at different points since the new season began has limited Jurgen Klopp’s choices at the start of the current campaign.
Over the past 18 months, the Reds’ midfield has not received any reinforcement; the only change being the signing of Juventus’ Arthur Melo on a season-long loan on the final day of the summer transfer window.
O Jogo reports that Liverpool are interested in Argentine international Fernandez and have not ruled out signing the 21-year-old in the near or mid-term, despite the fact that he only recently moved from River Plate.
Even though the player reportedly has a €120 million release clause, the Portuguese publication claims otherwise.
With the recent additions of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez to the Anfield squad, Liverpool has begun to scout prospects in the Primeira Liga.
Because of this, a move for Fernandez cannot be completely ruled out, but the cost, particularly at the stated release clause, would be a major obstacle.
