REVEALED: Major reason why Liverpool pulled out from Erling Haaland race after important details emerge

Erling Haaland’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City was one of the transactions of the summer, but it has been revealed that Liverpool were also interested in the Norwegian international.

The 22-year-old was sought after by a number of teams, including Liverpool, who wanted to activate Haaland’s release clause to sign him from Borussia Dortmund earlier this year.

According to Football Insider, the Americans were informed that it would cost a staggering sum of £300 million to complete the transaction, and that important information turned the Liverpool executives away.

Darwin Nunez, a great forward for Benfica who is already a fan favorite among the Anfield faithful, was instead acquired by the Merseyside club.

In the end, Man City exercised Haaland’s £51 million Dortmund release clause. On the surface, this seems like a good deal, but when you factor in wages and bonuses, the deal could have cost up to £300 million.

According to the source, the Norwegian superstar signed a five-year contract with the Etihad that is worth a base salary of £375,000 per week, but with bonuses, it is a staggering £850,000 per week.

The fact that just a small number of teams, including City, can afford a package like Haaland’s forces other clubs to seek elsewhere in an effort to compete.
