Revealed:How Cavani wanted to leave Manchester United
Boca Juniors boss Juan Román Riquelme has made a shocking revelation of how Edinson Cavani called him in January, in an attempt to leave Manchester United.
The 34-year-old moved to Old Trafford as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020 on a one year deal.
The Uruguayan striker struggled for playing time, when he first arrived, as he was not the preferred choice of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the first half of the 2020-21 season.
Midway, into the season Cavani, started exploring other options in an attempt to leave Manchester United.
“In January, Cavani called me that he wanted to come because he was playing little there.
“I’ve been speaking with him for a long time and he called me in January to come because he wasn’t playing there. I remember we talked one day and the next day he came in and scored two goals in the last minutes.
“He made a comeback. From then on he started scoring goals in all the games and they renewed with him,” Riquelme told TNT Sports.
Cavani has scored 17 goals for Manchester United in all competitions and did extend his stay at the club for another year.
