Rio Ferdinand gives his verdict on Liverpool’s newest signing Darwin Nunez transfer
Rio Ferdinand gives his assessment on Darwin Nunez’s transfer to Liverpool.
Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s newest addition, has already received Rio Ferdinand’s approval.
The Reds made a move to catch up with Manchester City’s signing of Erling Haaland by signing Nunez from Benfica.
When add-ons are taken into account, Liverpool may have spent up to £67.5 million, setting a new club record.
Nunez had an outstanding season for Benfica, scoring 34 goals in all competitions, including six in the Champions League and one against Liverpool.
This summer, his form made him a target for a number of clubs, with a number of clubs connected with a move for the Uruguayan.
Liverpool, though, moved quickly to secure the big-money transfer because they needed to answer to City’s business.
It’ll be bad news for Liverpool’s Premier League opponents, as Jurgen Klopp already has a very strong team.
Ferdinand, a BT Sport pundit, has highlighted this on his YouTube channel.
“Watched a lot of this guy in the Champions League last season…Virgil Van Dijk gave a glowing reference in a recent interview,” he said on Vibe with Five.
“Looks like a top signing for Liverpool unfortunately.”
Nunez is still only 22, and he should have all the tools he has to continue to improve at Anfield.
