Tottenham will have to fend off a new club for one of their attackers after the race for his signature got competitive, and Friday’s Transfer Gossip claims West Ham are considering a Ligue 1 forward as they look to add a second midfielder to Jude Bellingham’s roster.
Liverpool have started pursuing a move for a prominent Chelsea star as they seek to sign a player to replace Jude Bellingham.
According to a source, Liverpool has taken a careful interest in Chelsea’s contract negotiations with Mason Mount and will pounce if the England player goes free.
Chelsea has been corresponding with Mount and his group for some time. The Daily Mail reported a contract “impasse” between the two sides on February 11..
They are some way apart in terms of wages and this has left Chelsea pretty much ‘resigned’ to losing him in the near future. His current deal expires in summer 2024.
According to an update from ESPN, Liverpool are interested in signing Mount. They believe they can get him for a reduced price once he enters the final 12 months of his Blues contract.
ESPN write that there has been ‘little progress’ made between Chelsea and the 24-year-old. This is not just down to wages, as Mount also has concerns about penning an incredibly long deal at Stamford Bridge. This is something which has become customary under the ownership of Todd Boehly.
Liverpool’s problems in midfield are well documented, and Mount might be one of the players to arrive at Anfield as a solution.
Jurgen Klopp could end up having a devastating midfield at his disposal as the Reds are also leading the charge for Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool are thought to be Bellingham’s preferred next club, despite interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Mount has not been at his best this season. After registering 13 goals and 16 assists last season, he has only managed three goals and six assists in 30 matches this term. It seems he is struggling to deal with the plethora of new signings that have joined Graham Potter’s squad.
Nevertheless, Klopp will have confidence he can get Mount back to his best, helping him to become one of the top attacking midfielders in the Premier League once again.
And this will become far more likely if the Chelsea academy graduate is partnered with Bellingham in midfield. After all, despite being just 19, Bellingham is already a leader in the dressing room who can inspire other players.
Plus, Mount and Bellingham know each other well from their time in the England setup.
Liverpool will not have it all their own way when it comes to signing Mount, however. ESPN state that competition will arrive from fellow Premier League giants City and Man Utd.
