Following the 2-1 victory over Ajax, Virgil van Dijk thinks he has already noticed Liverpool beginning to play at their breathtaking best.

The Merseysiders took the lead against the visitors at Anfield thanks to an excellent team play that ended with Diogo Jota setting up Mo Salah for the opening goal.

“We showed glimpses [against Ajax] of what we normally are. We are good if we perform as a team,” the former Southampton man told BBC Sport.

In the 89th minute, Joel Matip’s tying goal prevented Alfred Schreuder’s team from salvaging a point from their trip to L4.

Fans thought a turning point had been reached after a 9-0 victory over Bournemouth and another great three points won against Newcastle thanks to Fabio Carvalho’s heroics.

Such ideas were immediately dispelled by a draw in the Merseyside derby and a 4-1 humiliation in Naples, but a significant improvement against the Dutch champs might, hopefully, herald a true fresh beginning for the FA Cup holders before the break.

With the Chelsea game postponed, we’ll at least have plenty of time to continue working on the groundwork we started yesterday.
